Many debtors are now looking for effective and easy debt management tips that they can do to lower down and eliminate their outstanding balances. You really cannot blame them for exerting much effort in debt reduction. You see, leading a debt-free life is what everybody wants to achieve. With that, they are slowly taking the steps towards the financially stable life.
If you are one of those who feel that they have done everything to settle their balances, here are several tips that you can do:
- Follow a strict budget – As you try to think of a good solution to address your balances, creating a budget is a good strategy. If your problem is excessive spending, this is the perfect strategy for you. Through this, you will be able to monitor the outflow of your money and you will be able to know if you are spending money on things that you do not really need. Do this each time you received your pay check.
- Settle your bills or balances on time – Majority of credit card companies will always charge their debtors with penalty fees if they fail to pay their bills on time. The amount that they will demand from you does not yet include the interest charges. To avoid accumulating fees, do your best to settle with your debts every month. Include credit card bills payment in your budget. It does not matter at first if you are only able to pay for the minimum. What matters is that you will never skip a payment period.
- Double the monthly minimum payment – Do not be satisfied in just paying for the minimum. At first this is a good plan, but as months pass by you must try your best to pay more than the monthly minimum fee. This will enable you to eliminate your debts as early as possible. Through this you are also able to minimize the interest fees that you need to pay.
- Avoid frequent usage of your cards – Since you are working your way to pay off all your debts, try to let your credit cards rest. Meaning, do not use them until you are able to eliminate all your current debts. This is one of the most common advices you will read from a debt help community.
There are many more debt management tips that you can do apart from these. Seek for financial counseling if you want to know more.
Declaring Credit Card Bankruptcy
Declaring credit card bankruptcy can be a scary thing, but you should make sure that you really need to resort to such an option before actually declaring bankruptcy. There are many credit counseling services which can help you try to avoid such an option. Bankruptcy is a huge event which can damage your credit rating for years, making it nearly impossible for you to get a home loan, and even hinder the rental application to some apartments. Think about your income. Do you have the ability to get a second job to to try to pay down your credit card debt? If so, this is definitely something you should consider before declaring bankruptcy. Try calling the credit card companies to see what options you have. They may be able to lower your interest rates temporarily to help you make your payments. Companies are usually willing to work with people somewhat, since bankrupt customers mean no payments coming in. They would rather get some payments than none at all. Over time, they can usually make their money back plus interest if people are making some payments.

Be Careful with Using Credit Cards
I heard from the news and read several updates on the internet that there’s a new kind crime going on these days – identity theft. I always thought that this identity theft thing only happens in the movies like Mission Impossible and Charlie’s Angels where the characters rip off their faces or masks, I should say. I never knew that some people actually make a living out of other people’s identities.
Just imagine someone getting a hold of your business credit card offer in the mailbox and started using the cards. At the end of the month, you’ll receive a billing statement stating that you should pay your balance for a card you didn’t use. How would you feel?
If you received pre-approved cards, don’t toss them in the trash bin right away. Call the company and have them cancel your pre-approved credit account, then, if you have a paper shredder, shred the letter and envelope that contains your personal information and cut the credit card with scissors. That’s one way to protect yourself from the identity thieves.
Need a List of No Credit Check Apartments?
Have you ever heard the old adage that money talks? Unfortunately it is very true, as many people rule their entire lives with that adage, and pay their way into getting their way about anything. It’s not a great way to live, for sure, and it sometimes creates problems, but if you are seeking to find no credit check apartments because you somehow messed up your credit, you may find that you will get what you desire by putting money on it. Paying for the first three months of your rent ahead of time, for instance, may easily get a landlord to overlook your bad credit. You may also explain what got you into your bad credit and show examples why this is no longer true, to help your case along. Chances are though that your money will talk even more nicely than yourself, and you’ll get that apartment none the less.
Your Cheap Bankruptcy Options
There’s no doubt that filing bankruptcy will cost a considerable amount of money especially if you are to hire a bankruptcy lawyer. A lawyer will charge you around $1000 to $3000 for his or her services but aside from that, you will also need to pay the bankruptcy filing fee of $300 and miscellaneous charges like those for credit counseling and others. When you ask for advice from a bankruptcy lawyer, you will be told that you will need their services when filing for your claim but in reality, you do not really need to. By law, you are allowed to represent yourself and hiring a lawyer to assist you is purely optional.
The question is; what are the choices for you to file cheap bankruptcy? You’ll be happy to know you have some available but remember to give each of these choices careful thought and consideration. It’s crucial that you choose whichever option suits you and your situation best.
• Do it by yourself – it may not be the best option for you but this is the surest way to a cheap bankruptcy. If you file by yourself, the remaining fees are filing fees and credit counseling session fees that, in the lightest of bankruptcy cases, can be canceled.
• Bankruptcy preparation services online – you will still pay charges (usually some hundred dollars or so) for their services but you will have help in obtaining and filling out all the forms that you need for filing bankruptcy, a very important part of the process that, if done correctly, can help you in getting your case approved. The online preparation service will cover your bankruptcy documentation but they cannot give you any legal advice nor be able to represent you in court.
• Software for online bankruptcy – the cost depends on the bankruptcy type you are filing but they can cost you around $150 or even lower and you get up-to-date and legitimate forms as well everything else that you need for filling. The software contains a detailed guide so you do not miss any important part in the documentation process.
• Law school services – law schools usually give free services to locals who need legal advice with their bankruptcy claims. This benefits law students as well because they gain experience and hands on training as they handle real life bankruptcy cases.
Where Do I Start
I am just wondering how to get a credit card , my student advisor said that I should get one. Apparently if I get one and use it sensibly it will help me long term.
By “use it sensibly” I assume he means pay it off when I use it. The general idea is that I need it so that I have a credit rating when I graduate. Future employers will look at my credit rating, see I handle my card sensibly and realize what a great employee I would make.
While it is nice to have people suggesting things to me, I understand they want to help, no one explains how to do something. If someone says I need to change the engine in my car before it blows up, that doesn’t help much as I have no idea how to do it.
That is exactly how I feel about credit cards right now, I agree I need one but exactly what do I do now so that I can get one?
